forest issues

Around 81 percent of the earth's land area is not formally protected and consists of 'multi-layered' forested landscapes that support people, biodiversity, agricultural activity and industry, making them highly productive.

Forests have a value for all these groups, locally and globally. It is vital that forest conservation understands the multiple perspectives and competing demands on all levels and that certain trade-offs will have to be made.

There is growing recognition of the role of forests in storing carbon and combating climate change. The emerging approach of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation is gaining acceptance at the international level

WE can conserve forests by the following measures:

1.  by avoiding deforestation

2.  by reducing pollution

3.  by not practising over HARVESTING and if necessary rotational HARVESTING can be adopted .

4.  ENRICHMENT planting of trees on hillsides and abandoned land.

5.  harvesting only matured trees.

6.  re-planting to insure future supplies.

7.  put out camp fires before leaving the camp and don't throw away lighted cigarettes in forest stand.
